Abstract (EN)

This study examines the historical and theological background of the “doctrine of chosenness”,which holds a central place in Jewish belief and analyzes the Qur’anic stance on this concept. According to Judaism, the Israelites are considered a nation chosen by God, and this belief has played a significant role in religious texts and the formation of Jewish identity throughout history. Over time, the doctrine has been interpreted in various ways and has occasionally led to conflicts with other belief systems, especially due to its perception of superiority. The Qur’an presents the attitudes of previous communities in both critical and instructive ways. It adresses the Jewish understanding of chosenness with striking evaluations, emphasizing universal values such as faith, righteous deeds, and justice, instead of ancestry. According to the Qur’anic perspective, superiority is not based on lineage but on piety (taqwa). In this context, the thesis offers a comparative analysis between the historical stance of the Jews and Qur’anic approach, based on related verses. The research was conducted using classical tafsir sources, historical documents, and contemporary academic literature, aiming to present a comprehensive view of the Qur’anic position regarding the doctrine of chosenness.
