Abstract (EN)
Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are recognized as a promising clean power technology in the future; its applications in vehicles and mobile electronic devices have been successfully achieved or demonstrated. For anhydrous proton conducting polymer electrolytes, the substitution of water by heterocycles such as imidazole, benzimidazole or triazole as alternative proton solvents has been studied. The proton-conducting properties of nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycles has been realized and they are used as polymer electrolytes with either sulfuric acid doped or sulfonated polymers blend systems. In this study, polystyrene was functionalized with triazole and sulfonic acid groups as a new approach for anhydrous proton conducting polymers. A series of sulfonated polystyrene (20 and 30 % degree of sulfonation) were successfully synthesized by using trimethylsilyl chlorosulfonate (TMSCS) as sulfonating agent. Triazole functionalized polystyrene derivative (Tr-PS) was synthesized by the reaction of chloromethyl styrene with 1H-1,2,4-Triazole-3-thiol. Subsequently, the blends and films (Tr-PS -sPS) of two functionalized polymers were prepared. Membranes are structurally characterized by NMR and FT-IR. The thermal stability of the materials is measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The dc conductivities of the polymer electrolytes at 25 oC were measured by four contact methods and the maximum conductivity was found to be 1 x 10-4 S / cm for sample Tr-PS x sPS %30 x 2.
