Abstract (EN)
At the scope of this master's thesis, the combustion characteristics of boron integrated fuels, which are strategically important for our country, and the emission formation behaviors after combustion were investigated experimentally in different types of combustors. Experiments were carried out in the Meker-Fisher burner in two different operation conditions as premixed combustion and diffusion combustion. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), gasoline and triethyl borate (TEB) fuels were used as pure fuels. By adding TEB to gasoline fuel, combustion characteristics were tried to be determined in LPG and Meker-Fisher burner test setup. In the experimental study, TEB, a boron derivative, was investigated in three different combustor systems and at different mixing ratios. In the droplet combustion experimental test results, 0% fuel droplet showed spectral change from yellow to red, 100% TEB fuel droplet showed green and yellow glowing flame formation. It has been observed that the time-dependent change of droplet diameter in 100% TEB fuel compared to 0% TEB fuel occurs in a shorter time, the flame temperature is higher, the burning time is shorter, and the ignition delay is shorter. In the channel combustion experimental test results, 100% TEB fuel showed a tendency to burn at high temperature above the flame, in a shorter time and faster. In the experimental test results of Meker-Fisher burner, maximum over-flame temperatures were observed in 15% and 20% TEB fuel in premixed flames. In premixed flames, 10% TEB fuel showed a sudden increase in temperature above the flame compared to 0% TEB fuel at all flow conditions. As diffusion flames and premixed flames progress from 1.5 lt/min flow rate to 7.5 lt/min flow rate, flame breakdowns, flame emission, and raises in micro-explosion were observed. As TEB contribution increased in emission iv formation behavior, a decrease was detected in CO and H2 emissions. In the experiments performed on premixed flames, as the flow rate of LPG soared, the flame cone angle decreased and the flame length increased with the raise of TEB additive. Flame propagation swelled as a result of TEB contribution and soar in flow rate in diffusion flames. The results obtained from the experiments showed that the use of triethyl borate (TEB) in alternative fuels as an additive or main fuel is suitable for use in combustion systems.
