Lean logistics and an application

Lean Logistics has become a current issue during the late 90?s and has been started to applied in industry at the beginning of the 2000. Therefore, there isn?t enough number of scientific researches and experiments in industry. Especially, the Lean Logistics is a very brand new issue for Turkey and there isn?t any academic research has been done on this topic yet. With this study, a basic contribution is purposed to be made to the Turkish literature and the benefits carried from Lean Logistics are assessed.Lean Logistics is a utopia and designates the point, where the companies are trying to reach. Lean Logistics eliminates the reasons cause to chaos while tries to accelerate the processes in the companies. The customer satisfaction is the key point of the Lean Logistics and the companies gain flexibility and agility. They can give quick response to the undesired situations and reorganise themselves according to the new conditions. In Lean Logistics, organic connections are set between the companies and their suppliers in order to maintain the deliveries on time as planned. Lean Logistics does not only take the costs just obtain from production, but also considers the costs include the all processes start from the supply of the materials on the production tree and ends with the delivery of the product to the customer that defined as ?Total Cost of Ownership?. The purpose of the Lean Logistics is to keep this ?Total Cost of Ownership? at the minimum level.In this study a main supplier of an automotive company which drives the Lean Logistics has been chosen and the assessments based on the information derived from the interviews made with the supplier are presented.
