Abstract (EN)
Roll motion is one of the most important motions of the vessels that should be taken into precaution. The most seen problems on a rolling vessel are; cargo damage, uncomfortably of the passengers, the difficulties in working of the crew and the problems that may occur in the strength of the vessel.It is easier to control roll motion of the vessel compared with the pitch motion as the moments occurred are less. In the situation forces can be controlled, the vessel has to move on a certain course by considering roll and pitch motions. By decreasing the roll motion, the vessel gathers way more distance in a less time.Many system theories and designs are studied in roll motion. In general the aim is to decrease the roll angle and increase the period. Most of these systems succeeded and were applied since some failed.Some of the designs can not be applied in real because of the serious damages and unsolved safety problems that may occur on the vessel.The conditions of a vessel that will be fit with roll stabilization should be examined well and after investigations the most suitable system should be fit on the vessel. A random selection can cause results that are not expected and a group of equipments that occupy unnecessary volume.This thesis gives views on the mainly roll stabilization systems that are applied and the criteria about the selection of the systems. In case working conditions for a vessel is considered, a good decision can be made about the selection of the system.Keywords: Roll motion, roll stabilization systems, selection of the roll stabilization system.
