Abstract (EN)

Parquet, ceramic, terrazzo, tiles, and tile are usually used for the floor covering of a building. Unit of quantity take-off of floor covering is square meters. However, the production of floor covering materials at standard dimensions, dissonance between the dimensions of the coated surface and the dimensions of the used material, irregularities of the coated area, existence of the structural and architectural elements such as column doorsill installation shaft, and any distortions which causes irregularity of the covered surface may necessitate the cutting of the covering material during the floor covering. Cutting of the floor covering material increases the amount of wasted material and workmanship. In this study, building information model based system is developed to determine the most suitable placement pattern of the floor cover material, and the most suitable floor covering dimensions which minimizes the waste of material and workmanship rate. The amounts of material and the required cuttings for construction of floor covering of a room of a hypothetical construction project are calculated as a case study. Developed system proposed the optimum size for the floor covering material and installation pattern which minimizes the amount of material waste. When the results are considered, it is expected that the developed system would decrease the construction costs since the amounts of material waste and workmanship would be decreased. Thus, more effective structure design and more efficient cost control will be obtained. Keywords: Building Information Modeling, Quantity Take-off, Cost Analysis, Floor covering
