vTECHNOLOGYCAL INNOVATION OF ARCHITECTURAL MATERIALSAND THEIR IMPACTS ON ARCHITECTURAL FORMING(M.Sc. Thesis)Serap BAKTIRGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYOctober 2006ABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to examine the interactions between constructionmaterials, technological development and the architectural product. Thestarting point of the study is; the search for "the new", which arises from thetechnological development of construction materials. New materials, newproduction techniques of these materials, and the search for new forms enabledsmaller, lighter, smarter and more effective materials to be produced, alsomaking them more responsive to environmental stimuli. The material, whichcould be reformed or reshaped in a wide variety of ways with the advancementsin the physics and organic chemistry sciences, is starting to get questioned aftercomputers and hence better information flow get involved in the process. Thevery common terminology about the material's existence like "transparency","lightness" and "elasticity" is now becoming bigger as the new terms like"dematerialization" or "immaterialization" start to get in. As a result ofelectronic media and computer technology, these new terms are meant to refinethe material free of its physical properties and actually imply non-materiallity.Nowadays characteristics based on fleeting, speed and evolution, has moved theproduction process of construction into another dimension.
