Analysing of a selected model for life cycle assessment of building products in terms of bricks

Since the first time of existence, humankind has consumed natural sources. All of the improvement of humankind, increasing of population, industrialization and urbanization are caused to begin losing functions of nature and, by the time, it can not fix itself. Due to this reason, environmental problems are one of the important problems of developing world. Building and building products are the major source of the environmetal problems. Therefore, many studies come to exist. The method of life cycle assessment produces to minimum source consumption and minimum waste production to minimize environmental effects of building and building products. There are many tools to produce life cycle assessment of building products. When examining study of national ones are observed as restricted. The necesssary data to produce life cycle assessment of building product is detected to be met with difficulties. The aim of this study is to reveal to problems encountered during producing life cycle assessment of building products. T his is a chosen model which is for determination to these problems to test. The subgoal of this study is to evaluate bricks which are made in Turkey of environmental local effects. This study consists of six parts. In the first part, summary of literature, aim of thesis and hypothesis were revealed. In the second part, method of life cycle assessment is handled entirely. Life cycle assessment of building products and tools for life cycle assessments of building products are investigated. Gökçe Tuna Taygun's Model which is told in the third part is chosen from investigated assessment tools in the second part. In the forth part, tool of Gökçe Tuna Taygun life cycle assessment is used to sample of brick. Life cycle processes of brick, possible influencing environmental outputs from process and influenced environmental groups are investigated. Environmental impacts are concretized by data from production plant in Turgutlu. In the fifth part, obtained evidence and proposal from testing bricks of Gökçe Tuna are revealed. Developable parts of model are investigated. Evaluation results of life cycle prosess of bricks are done. Evaluation conducted is found as comparable with the other bricks producers, developed, and a guide to choose product. In the sixth part, arising challenges during life cycle assessment of a building products are criticised on systemic way. Results of Committed evaluation is revealed that national evaluation tooles should be improved.
