Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, control performance of series tuned mass dampers are investigated for suppressing dynamic responses of a structures under seismic loads. 12 different earthquake records and 3 different soil classes are taken into account in obtaining the numerical results. Genetic algorithm method is used to obtain the optimum parameters of the series tuned mass damper. As a result of the study, it has been shown that the frequency content of the earthquake and the soil structure interaction have a significant effect on the control performance of series tuned mass dampers. In addition, the results obtained for the series tuned mass damper are compared with the traditional tuned mass damper.
