Character desings in relation with artificial intelligence and creativity

Can artificial intelligence be creative? Artificial intelligence has been a source of inspiration for cinema and literature to date and in recent years, it has started to become a part of fields that require creativity. Within the scope of this research, whether artificial intelligence contains creativity or not in terms of character design is revealed through an application project. In the study, the concept of creativity was considered important in terms of questioning the potential of artificial intelligence in character design. Experiments were conducted using datasets with different contents to question creativity. As a result of the experiments, human-artificial intelligence cooperation was experienced, and the character designs that could be made with artificial intelligence were applied in different channels. Artificial intelligence was found to be inspiring. The effect of artificial intelligence on character design has been examined not only in terms of creativity, but also in terms of technical (character animations) and social impact (user and character communication). Through artificial intelligence, the complex motor skills of the characters can be realized flexibly and naturally (Motion Intelligence), sentences can be converted into character movements (JL2P), two-dimensional static images can be animated to create a three-dimensional effect (Photo Wake-Up: 3D). This opens the doors of a new era in character animation. The developments that will change the relationship of the characters with the users are discussed in the character and user interaction section. Artificial intelligence supported virtual characters have started to influence users in many ways by getting ahead of non-interactive characters. In the application part of the research, a project was designed to explore the limits and potential of artificial intelligence. The increasing continuation of violence against women shows that there is a need for more awareness on the issue. In the project, it has been seen that artificial intelligence can create visuals that can raise awareness against violence against women.
