Adaptation of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes developed for semi-arid conditions and determination of some quality characteristics

In this study, 49 advanced bread wheat lines provided from CIMMYT and one Control variety were used. The experiment was established on November 18, 2023, at the Diyarbakır GAP International Agricultural Research Institute fields according to the Lattice experimental design, consisting of 2 replications and 5 blocks. Eleven yield and quality-related parameters of bread wheat were investigated, and the significance levels of differences among the means were statistically analyzed. As a result of the research, the average plant height of the genotypes was 99,35 cm, with the highest plant height measured in the Control variety. The mean spike length was 9,43 cm, ranging from 12,3 to 8,3 cm among the genotypes, with the highest spike length observed in the G-35 genotype. The mean number of grains per spike was 43,58, with the highest value recorded in the G-29 genotype. The population's mean of Thousand Kernel Weight was 37,096 g, ranging from 43,2 to 31,3 g. The mean Hectoliter Weight was 81,64, with the highest value observed in the G-21 genotype. The mean Days to heading was 112,3 days, with the highest value recorded in the G-3 genotype. The highest wheat yield was observed in the G-8 genotype, while the highest average Protein Content was found in the G-28 genotype. Regarding Wet Gluten Content, the mean value for the genotypes was 29,346. For the Zeleny Sedimentation Value, the mean was 45 ml. The mean Number of spikelets Per Spike was found to be 17,057. Among the genotypes studied, G-8, G-18, G21, and G-23 were highlighted for their grain yield performance, while G-25, G-28, G36, and G-38 stood out in terms of quality. The G-35 genotype was notable for being prominent in grain yield and demonstrating acceptable values in terms of quality traits.
