Criticism in the Yaşar Nabi Period of Varlık magazine (1933-1981)

This dissertation explores how Varlık, a significant magazinein Turkish literary history, dealt with the subject of criticism during the Yaşar Nabi period and for this purpose, analyzes the issues of the magazine published between the years 1933-1981. In the Introduction of this dissertation, which consists of an Introduction and four chapters, information about the magazines published in Turkey from its first edition until 1980 is given and the publication history of the Varlık magazine, which was published under the editorial direction of Yaşar Nabi, is explained in detail. In the first chapter, Articleson Artand Literature are examined. In this chapter, which mainly consists of theoretical articles, how the writers approach the subjects of art, literature and criticism is assessed. In the second chapter, Articles on Short Storiesand Novels are examined. In this chapter, which is divided into two parts under the subtitles Stories and Novels, firstly, articles dealing with the theoretical nature of these genres; secondly, articles dealing with the development of these genres in Turkish literature; and finally, criticisms dealing with the writers who have written works in this genre in Turkish literature and the works they have writtenare evaluated. In the third chapter, Articles on Poetry are examined. Firstly, theoretical criticisms, secondly, the development of poetry in Turkish literature and finally, articles dealing with the writers who have written works in this genre in Turkish literature and the works they have produced in this genre are examined. In the final chapter of this study, Articles on Turkish Literature are evaluated. Within the scope of this purpose, the criticisms dealing with this subject under three subtitles, namely Turkish Literature in General, Periods of Turkish Literature and What is a "National" Literatureare examined. In the conclusion, a general assessmentof this study is carried out and in the bibliography, publication information of the Varlık magazine, which is the main source of this dissertation and other sources are given.
