The principles of artifical lighting, investigation and recoomendations for the elderly residences

Human life is a process that starts with birth and ends with death. Human life consists of three phases, and the last one of these three phases, the biological, physiological, spiritual and functional changes are seen in the old age. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines aging as "a gradual decline in ability to adapt to the environment" and accepts individuals over the age of 60 in the elderly. Factors such as the conditions within the countries, developments in the health field, social and cultural dimensions can change the age classification. Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK) is considered to be an elderly people over 65 years. Today, due to developing technology and innovations in health, the population has increased over 65 years of age. For this reason, there is need for institutions and organizations for these people. T.C. The Ministry of Family and Social Policy serves as a elderly residence and elderly residence as an elderly care rehabilitation center. The artificial lighting schemes of nursing home living rooms should be designed in accordance with the function and action of the individual to see. Within the scope of this graduate thesis, general principles have been given to the changes caused by the aging of the visual organs and to the visual comfort conditions according to these changes. Artificial lighting schemes of an existing elderly residence is examined with objective and subjective methods in the context of relevant criteria, findings and suggestions are presented.
