In this study, 1) concept and period of ?old age? are discussed; 2) care andsheltering facility alternatives for elderly are reviewed. National andinternational researches are also reviewed to diagnose the spatial factors thatprovide ?feeling at home? in old age homes, which are common type shelters.Being the key concept, ?therapeutic environment? conditions were focused inplanning, programming, design and assessment studies regarding suchenvironments. In this frame, a ?therapeutic environment model? is structuredin this study. ?Place attachment? and ?home? concepts of phenomenologicalresearch are used for the elaboration of the model. The model consists of thefollowing issues; 1) autonomy, 2) aesthetics, 3) physical comfort conditions, 4)social support, 5) personalization, 6) privacy and 7) minimization ofinstitutional attitude. Application of the speculation model was performed in75th Year Rest and Care Home for Elderly, in Ankara.
