A staging of "God of Carnage" by Yasmina Reza

Urbanization, modernization and the economic structure has affected and shaped many phenomena of human life today. This change, along with the rapid developments in communication technologies has affected great masses. It is important for theatre to explore the process of adaptation to these new circumstances, in order to understand and give voice to the contemporary human. The aim of this study is to examine the urban life the modernized societies, through Yasmina Reza's work, God of Carnage. In particular, its effects on people and the family institution, the results of individualisation, the change in consumption habits, and the struggles to gain power over each other in one-to-one relationships. These issues have been discussed and the depictions of these phenomena have been attempted to be represented on the stage within the restrictions of the text. The content and perspective of simulation theory, leans on the processes and consequences of the modernization of societies. Therefore, both the examination of the text and the design of the stage play have been done in relation to simulation theory. The possibilities of assistive features, such as décor, costuming, accessories, and music, have been assessed in order to achieve the intentions of the narrative. This work is a staging attempt of the play God of Carnage, with the objective of representing the aforementioned issues in a new and different way and through different features.
