Özet (EN)

Türkiye had been governed by single-party system from the foundation of republic to the end of the Second World War. Undertaking of passing to the multiparty system, which was supported by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkish Republic, had been shelved since the republic and revolution could not been adapted to social life and because of the risk of coming war. After the end of Second World War, the start of the cold war and efforts of Türkiye to take apart in West block speed up the need for a multiparty system and democracy. A group, deviated from the Republican People?s Party, announced that they would never leave the primary facts of republic and founded the Democratic Party leading of Celal Bayar.Displeasure caused by single party system, economical and social troubles comed with the Second World War and the Republican People?s Party?s disjointed diplomacy made the Democratic Party more stonger. The change of election system in 1946 and the Prime Minister İsmet İnönü?s equal stance against all parties ended up 23-year-old Republican People?s Party governance.Democratic Party took over the governance on 14 May 1950. In their first governance years, they did well with the economical and political help of USA along with community?s interests on new governors. Increment of votes on 1954?s election, encouraged Democratic Party governors and Celal Bayar to go back to single party system, which had been criticized by them in 1946. Economical problems, cost of living and the feed stock troubles increased community?s tension. Attempts to control press and universities had become improved.Practices of going back from Atatürk?s revolutions, dictatorship governance and legal arrangements against armed forces had become on the first days of Democratic Party government. Having realised all those, armed forces had been organised to protect republic when needed. Economical crises, street fights, oppressive methods against all kinds of community and foundation of investigation commission made the armed forces to take the control on 27 May 1960.Turkish press, which had been clamped down by Democratic Party during their governance, started to slander their 10 years performances and supported army governance. In an atmosphere where all magazines and newspapers on Democratic Party side was closed, the newspapers, which were on air after 27 May, published records of proceedings and showed the people charged with offence as if they were guilty even before their judgement started. By publishing the records of proceedings, Turkish press lightened the history, reflected the judgement of Yassıada and Turkish press approach of that period, and made today?s Turkish press to learn and get experienced from their mistakes.
