Investigating self-images of boarding elementary school students according to some variables

ABSTRACT Master Thesis INVESTIGATING SELF-IMAGES OF BOARDING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ACCORDING TO SOME VARIABLES Yücel YILDIRIM The University of Firat Social Sciences Institute Main Science Branch of Psychology 2004, Page 70 This study was planned to determine the relationship between boarding school life and self-image of students for that aim 53 eighth grade students of boarding elementary school in Elazığ city center and 49 eight grade students in towns of Elazığ. A variable Measurement test was developed to determine same variables which have effects on self-image. Offer Self-image Inventory (OSIQ-99) was used to measure the self-image of the students. Frequency, mean score, variance analysis and test were used to analyze the data Turkey HSD test was used to determine the source of the difference when the difference between variables was significant. According to the data obtained from the study statistically significant differences were observed between the views of the students studying at Boarding Elementary Schools in the subscales of family relations, sexual attitudes and individual values. Significant differences were observed in sexual attitudes and the power of overcoming the problems. It was also seen that there are significant differences between the views of the students on self-image, communication and friendship relations. As the views of the participants were negative, it was seen that their scores were increased. This shows that the students have low self-image. According to the results of the study, it is proposed that the life in Boarding Elementary School should be enriched by different activities and the social and psychological developments of the students should be supported The Boarding Elementary School, should be evaluated from a different point of view and new regulations should be done according needs of the students.
