The practices about the personal cares of boarding and day students in boarding district elementary schools

Abstract (EN)

This research has been made with the aim of determining the practices about the personal cares of boarding and day students in the boarding district elementary school of Kıbrıscık which is a town of Bolu.The research has been carried out via applying the survey prepared by the researcher himself to a total of 190 students,including 108 boarding and 82 day students,who attended this school in the years of 2006-2007.Acording to the result of the research,the boarding students have much more complaint about the bad smell of foot than day students.The difference between the boarding girls? complaint and day girls? complaint about the bad smell of foot has been found meaningful(p<0.01). It has been seen that boarding girls? hair become scurfy more frequently than day girls? hair.The difference between the frequency of boarding girls? having scurfy hair and the frequency of day girls? having scurfy hair has been found extremely significant(p<0.001). Furthermore, day students change their underwear more commonly than boarding students.The difference between the girls? being a boarding student or day student and the frequency of changing their underwears has been found meaningful after the evaluation(p<0.05).Moreover, it has been seen that both male and female students attending the school in day time prefer both water an soap, especially liquid soap, while washing their face and hands much more than day students.Besides, boarding girls brush their teeth more frequently than day females.Day males brush their teeth more frequently the boarding males.Also, most of the day and boarding students don?t use tooth rope but they go to a dentist when they have a toothache.Also, nearly most of the students wash their hands after toilet, wash their feet, dry them with a foot towel, change their socks everyday, cut their nails once a week in order to be clean and they have a bath once a week.They use soap and shampoo while having bath and clean their ear with the help of a cotton bud after the bath.Moreover, it has been realized that all the students clean their nose with a handkerchief or a piece of napkin.They have often a bath in order to prevent bad smell of sweat, use toilet paper and water at the lavatory and learn information about cleanliness from their parents.At the end of the research, it has been recognized that both boarding and day students? personal cares have similar features and the educational type of the students doesn?t have a considerable effect on the practices about personal cares.
