Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to reveal how the teaching of the Interaction of Light with Matter Unit, which is presented to 7th grade students within the scope of science course, with the slow transition animation technique will affect the academic success of the students and their motivation for learning science, and to reveal the students' views on this technique. For this purpose, the research was conducted by considering the qualitative supported quantitative mixed research method. The quantitative part of the study was created according to the pre-test post-test control group design, and the qualitative part was created according to the phenomenology method. The participants in the study were selected according to the appropriate sampling method, and the sample; They are 7th grade students studying in two different secondary schools under the Ministry of National Education in the second half of the 2021-2022 academic year. 30 deney grubu öğrencisi ve 30 kontrol grubu öğrencisi olmak üzere toplamda 60 öğrenci ile çalışılmıştır. In the quantitative part of the research, the Interaction of Light with Matter Academic Achievement Test and the Motivation Scale for Learning Science were used as data collection tools, while in the qualitative part, interviews with the experimental group students about the slow transition animation technique were used. In the analysis of quantitative data, mixed ANOVA and mixed MANOVA were applied, respectively, to test whether there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of academic achievement and motivation for learning science variables in terms of pre-test and post-test results. In the analysis of qualitative data, content analysis was performed. When the research findings are examined, in terms of the academic success of the seventh grade students on the Interaction of Light with Matter; It was concluded that there was no significant difference in terms of the practice group variable, their academic achievement increased over time in terms of the practice time variable, and there was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group in terms of the practice group and time interaction variable. In addition, according to the effect size partial eta-square (η2) value, it was observed that there was a significant difference between the academic achievement scores of the experimental and control group students. According to the mixed MANOVA analysis findings of the Motivation Scale for Learning Science, it was concluded that there was a significant difference in terms of the application group variable and the effect size was at a large level, and this difference was found to be significant only in the first dimension of the scale, the motivation for doing research. In addition, it was concluded that the motivation of the students towards learning science did not differ significantly in terms of the time variable and the time interaction variable of the application group. According to the results of the interviews about the slow transition animation technique, it is seen that in general, the majority of the students like this technique, but it requires a lot of time and effort, and some students express that they want to use the question solution technique instead of this technique for different reasons such as wanting to study for the exam system. It was concluded that the students were divided into two regarding the implementation of the application with a group, half of them were in favor of doing it with a group, and half of them were in favor of doing it individually. As another result, it was seen from the drafts and expressions that the students had some different common mistakes in the draft preparation stage, which is one of the animation preparation steps, while it was concluded that these existing errors were eliminated from the model preparation, animation creation steps and expressions of the slow transition animation technique.
