Values in children's novels and stories of Yavuz Bahadıroğlu

Values are key elements of social life and culture. Intergenerational transfer of our values is of vital importance in order that individuals adapt themselves to the society in which they live and there can be a steady society. In terms of transfer of these values to children, development of cognitive, affective, psychomotor and linguistic skills of children, literature is an important and functional means. In recent years, many outhors produced works in the field of children's literature. One of these authors is Yavuz Bahadıroğlu who has written a great number of works, historical novels in particular. Bahadıroğlu is an intellectual who believes that occurence of real heroes who can set the society an example to preserve the present values and to generate new ones are very essential in terms of preservation social integration and national culture. For a large portion of his works, there are sample heroes who incorporate our national and cultural values in accordance with adressee group of age. The aim of this work is to set which values Bahadıroğlu's children novels and stories which he has written oriented to group of age between 9 and 15 convey and to specify the distribution of these values according to books. For this purpose, sexteen novels and five storybooks of Bahadıroğlu have been reviewed. During the review, while the most identified values are goodness, helpfulness (75), religious (70), the least included ones are loyalty (1), cleanliness (2), neighborhood values (2), manliness (2).
