Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to comperate the conventional and computational calculating methods in design of mat foundations that is widespread in Adapazarı. In the first chapter, the subject matter is introduced and general information given. In the second chapter, the basic information about footings have been presented and they have been classified. Then, bearing capacity of shallow footings has been explained. In the third chapter, mat foundations have been examined. Then, the calculation of the bearing capacity of mat foundations clay and sand has been explained. Lastly, some information about settlements and settlement criteries of footing have been presented. In the fourth chapter, the design of mat foundations with the traditional and computational methods have been explained and the assumption of tilse methods have been presented. In the fifth chapter, Lusas Finite Element Method has been explained and some data and the results are presented as shape and graphic. In the sixth chapter, the results are presented. In the last chapter, the discussion, comments and findings are presented. Key words: Mat foundation, depth of the foundation, finite element method.
