Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to examine the English Summer School provided by the Ministry of National Education in July and August 2022 based on the views of students, teachers, administrators, and parents. The participants of this research involved students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades attending the English Summer School from three different schools in a middle-sized city in the Central Black Sea Region, English teachers working in the schools where the summer school was offered, the administrators working at the summer school, and the parents sending their children to the summer school. The participants were composed of 15 students, six parents, five teachers, and two school administrators. The data of the study were collected using a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using the descriptive analysis technique. Obtaining the data covered a period of approximately 12 weeks. It was found that the general opinions of participants about the courses were mostly positive. It has been among the positive opinions that more emphasis is placed on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in the English Summer School. Students, teachers, administrators, and parents found the summer school more comfortable and informative than the regular school system. There are parts that need to be improved. Inadequate physical structures of schools and student absenteeism are the main problems.
