An investigation of seventh grade students' problem posing skills in algebra

Abstract (EN)

His study aimed to examine seventh grade students' problem-posing skills in algebra. The study was conducted with six students studying in a middle school in Kepez district of Antalya province in the 2022-2023 academic year. Criterion sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, was preferred in determining the participants. According to this method, the criteria were determined as the students' high level of mathematics achievement and their ability to express themselves and what they want to say. Content analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. In the data analysis phase, the data obtained from the Problem Forming Test were evaluated according to the Problem Forming Test Evaluation Rubric developed by Katrancı (2014). During the research, problem posing test and interview questions were used as data collection tools. According to the results of the study, students were more successful in free problem posing; while posing problems, they generally made mistakes in creating problem text and making the problem solvable.
