Evaluation of the new elementary education science&technology curriculum based on views of teachers, school directors and school inspectors

This study aims to examine and evaluate the views of teachers, school directors and school inspectors based on ?gender?, ?seniority basis?, ?academic background? and ?the participants? roles in teaching-learning process? parameters of the 2005 elementary education science and technology curriculum.This study was implemented in 2008-2009 academic year by 153 teachers, school directors and inspectors from 69 different schools in the city of Afyonkarahisar and its counties-Sandıklı and Hocalar. As an evaluation form a survey with two sections were applied. In the first section there were questions to learn the participants? personal information and in the second section there were 38 questions aiming to identify their views of the new 4th grade science and technology curriculum.For the data derived from this survey, Independent Samples T-Test and One-Way ANOVAs were utilized. According to the findings, some results were reached. The results suggested that school directors and teachers stated some deficiencies of the new science and technology curriculum in terms of its content, teaching-learning process and its objectives. Whereas, ?evaluation and assessment? part was considered as it is successful. On the other hand, school administrators stated more positive opinions than teachers. Co directors stated either inconsistent or similar opinions for all aspects of the curriculum. Inspectors however, indicated that the curriculum, in general, is consistent for its objectives bet there is some inefficiency in some parts.Keywords: Primary education, curriculum, teachers, primary school inspectors, administrators, science and technology.
