Abstract (EN)
Schiff bases are electron donating compounds that have been studied extensively due to their wide range of biological activities and high catalytic effects on many reactions. In this thesis, the synthesis of new Schiff bases and Zn (II) complexes modified with three amino acids that exhibit important features in the biological process, their characterization by various techniques and antiproliferative effects on various cancer cells were investigated. Within the scope of the study, amino acids (isoleucine, phenylalanine and methionine) were first converted to methyl esters by treatment of SOCl2, then new Schiff bases were obtained from the reaction of amino acid methyl esters with aldehydes (2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde, 5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 3-methoxy-2-hydroxy benzaldehyde (o-vanillin)). At the last stage, the synthesis of new complexes were also carried out with the reaction of Zn(OAc)2.2H2O with these Schiff bases and structural characterization of complexes were elucidated using elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-Visible and LC-MS/MS spectroscopy techniques. In addition, the thermal properties of new Schiff bases and their Zn (II) complexes were determined by TG / DTG, DTA techniques. After characterization studies, the anticancer activities of Schiff bases (1a-3c) and complexes (1a-Zn(II) -3c-Zn(II)) were investigated using C6, HeLa, HT29 and Vero cell lines.
