Abstract (EN)

In this study, the aim was to prepare, characterize and determine some properties of aromatic conjugated polymers containing diazo groups in their main chains. For this purpose, starting from dinitro derivatives of biphenyl, naphthalene and diphenyl ether, nitroamine derivatives were prepared by selective reduction except 4-amino-4?-nitrodiphenyl sulphide which is obtained commercially. Four nitroamine derivatives were reduced with Zn powder in basic condition to convert nitroamine compounds to monomers containing diazo group. And then, twelve fully conjugated aromatic polymerscontaining azo groups in their main chain were synthesized from diazo containing monomers with triphenylamine (TPA), triphenylphosphine (TPP) and N-methyldiphenyl amine (N-MDPA) via diazocoupling reaction. Characterizations of the monomers and polymers were performed by 1H-NMR, 31P-NMR, FTIR, UV-VIS, DSC, TGA techniques. It was found that all polymers are dark brown or black solids since they have fully aromatic conjugated molecular structure. Polymers prepared from TPA and TPP are insoluble in most of organic solvents but polymers prepared from N-MDPA are soluble in most of organic solvents due to the formation of quite linear chains. It was determined that they have two maxima at around 280 and 380 nm in UV region. They are nonconductive in crude polymeric form. Because of their fully aromatic backbones they showed high thermal stability and resistant to heat up to the energy required to break azo bonds.Keywords: Aromatic Backbone Diazo Polymers, Conjugated Polymers, Diazo Coupling, Light Sensitive Polymers
