ABSTRACTPhD ThesisDESİGN OF A NEW SWITCHED RELUCTANCEMOTOR AND ITS CURRENT CONTROLZeki OMAÇFırat UniversityGraduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesElectrical and Electronics Engineering2006, Page: 141In this study, a new switched reluctance motor (SRM) is designed and produced, with18 poles in stator and 12 poles in rotor, in order to reduce the radial forces causing noise. To illustrate the magnetic field distribution and to determine the greatest torque it canproduce, SRM model under investigation is analyzed by Finite Element Method. The fielddistribution of SRM and the torque depending on the rotor position is calculated as the results ofthe analysis. Also radial forces of Ns/Nr=6/4 and Ns/Nr= 12/8 poles three phase SRM modelsare calculated together with Ns/Nr=18/12 poles SRM model. The physical parameters and dimensions such as air gap width, outer diameter of statorand outer diameter of rotor are taken as the same for three different SRM models. The radialforces acting on a rotor pole for the same peak value of torque are compared for different statorand rotor pole numbers of SRM models under consideration. As the result, it is shown that theradial force acting on one rotor pole in Ns/Nr=18/12 poles SRM model is the lowest one. Thevibration and acoustic noise caused by radial force is reduced four times in Ns/Nr=18/12 SRM.In order to determine the performance of analyzed SRM driver, closed loop speed andcurrent control of SRM driver is performed by using TMS320LF2407A digital signal processor.Simulation results are also obtained by constructing the model of SRM driver underinvestigation in computer. The high performance of new designed and produced SRM driver isshown by comparing the results obtained from simulations and experiments. Keywords: Switched Reluctance Motor, Current Control, Digital Signal Processor.XII
