In vitro Evaluation of a New Resin İnfiltrant Icon®?s Sufficiency in Micro-invasive Caries Treatment

The aim of this study is investigating efficiency of resin infiltrant Icon®?s over initial enamel lesion of primary and permanent teeth in vitro and comparing with Ambar® and Helioseal®. For each teeth group, 264 initial lesions were created. Microhardness, surface-roughness and color analysis were done for searching efficiency of Icon® at each teeth groups. Lesion?s structure and material?s relation with lesion were evaluated with SEM. Icon®?s and Ambar®?s shear-bond strength were analyzed, mode of fracture was assessed with stereomicroscope. Ambar® and Helioseal® has closer values, however has lower values compared with healthy enamel and Icon® for microhardness analysis. After new acid attack, Helioseal® showed the least microhardness variation. For surface-roughness, Helioseal® had the closest value to healthy enamel; Icon® and Ambar® followed this group. When microhardness and surface-roughness are compared in terms of teeth groups, statistically no significant difference was discovered(p>0,0028). Icon® is more successful for masking lesion compared to Ambar® and Helioseal®; Icon® and Ambar® is more successful in primary teeth compared to permanent teeth(p<0,0083). Ambar® discolored the most for tea, chocolate milk and orange juice(p>0,0083) and statistically no significant difference was discovered between teeth groups for discoloration(p>0,0028). Icon® penetrates to lesion well, however there were spaces between lesion and material at Ambar® and Helioseal®. Icon® bonds stronger at both teeth groups. Kohesiv fracture was observed more at Icon®; while Adhesive fracture was observed more at Ambar®. In conclusion, infiltrating of initial enamel lesion with resin is promising approach; however oral hygiene and diet habit should not be ignored.
