ABSTRACT Macro and Micro Economic Effects of the New Economy: The Case of Turkey: 1990-2020 With the development in information technologies, changes are observed on individual and company basis such as new products, new markets, new marketing methods, new production techniques, new shopping habits. Depending on the developments in information technologies, the transformations in the economic structure show that the economies have transformed into a different structure from the industrial economy. While the new economic structure formed is called "knowledge economy", "new economy"; Today's socio-economic life, dominated by the new economy, has also been called the "information age". In this study, the new economy and productivity concept will be discussed at micro and macro level under these changing conditions. After conceptual explanations on the subject, the relationship between the new economy and productivity will be discussed first. Then, the effects of the new economy on the microeconomics and the macroeconomic effects of the new economy will be discussed, respectively. It will be examined what kind of productivity increase the new economy provides on a micro and macro basis and in which sectors this productivity increase occurs. The issue of whether the new economy, which is a frequent debate in the literature on the new economy and productivity, actually provides productivity gains, will be explained by considering especially developed economies. The thesis is important in terms of showing the effects of the transformation in developed economies within the framework of the new economy on the Turkish economy. The aim of the thesis is to see to what extent Turkey has been affected by the process called the new economy within the framework of the above explanation.
