Abstract (EN)
Design and synthesis of novel functional organic compounds have attracted considerable attention since they lead to a variety of advanced technological applications in the field of molecular electronics and photonics, sensors, machines and devices, light emitting diodes, photovoltaics, transistors, electrochromics, data processing and storage media. For that reason, the design, synthesis and characterization of novel functional organic compounds are highly concerned by first the synthetic organic chemists as well as other communities all around the world. In the first part of the study, three novel D-A-D type compounds (1-3), which are based on benzo[c][1,2,5]oxadiazole and thiophene, EDOT and ProDOT-C10 units as acceptor and donor parts, respectively, are synthesized. The corresponding polymeric materials (P1-P3) are obtained by screening suitable solvents and electrolytes after characterization by spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. Optical and electronic features of the polymers are investigated. It is found that the polymers (P1-P3) exhibit magenta, greenish-blue and cyan colors in the neutral state, respectively. It is also noteworthy that the neutral state colors of the polymer electrochromes can be adjusted through rational design of the backbone structure. Furthermore, it is shown that new colors can be obtained by using these polymer electrochromes according to color mixing theory. In the second part of the study, three novel redox active and photochromic materials (4-6) are synthesized. Optical and electronic features of these materials are investigated by spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. It noted that these novel DTE-based materials (4-6) can be switched easily from colorless open isomers (4a-6a) to colored closed isomers (4k-6k). After synthesis and characterization, these materials were tested to be amenable for use in some applications (as photochromic, electrochromic and dual chromic smart materials).
