Abstract (EN)
Communication has always been such a concept that has a strong impact on people. Specifically, it has deeply affected human relations with the emergence of new communication tools. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of social media platforms, which are some of the new communication tools, on interpersonal communication and interaction. This impact is explained by arguing on social media platforms, which are frequently used in interpersonal communication; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp. In this context, first, transformation of communication tools is comprehensively explained and their impact on individuals is examined. Then, the concept of interpersonal relations is studied and a detailed literature review of this concept is conducted. Finally, the impact of the aforementioned social media platforms on interpersonal relations and interaction processes of individuals are examined and the relation between individuals' preferences on communication and interaction is explored. In this study, a survey is conducted and the attitude and perception of individuals to the social media platforms are explored. In the result, it is revealed by using Hierarchical Regression Analysis that the social media platforms do not have a significant impact on the interpersonal relations of individuals. Because this study is limited to the impact of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp only, the answer to the impacts of other social media platforms on interpersonal relations is left to other studies. Lastly, it is stated that the results might show a difference in different sample groups.
