Abstract (EN)
Volunteering is a significant concept that not only contributes to the society individuals are part of but also supports personal development, fosters a sense of social responsibility, and strengthens social bonds. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) emerge as key actors that promote social solidarity through volunteer-based activities while addressing various societal needs. This study aims to identify the perceptions of volunteering among new generations (Y and Z), examine the psychosocial effects of such activities on participants, and evaluate volunteer activities carried out in NGOs. The research was conducted to address the central question: "How are the perceptions of volunteering shaped among new generations? What are the psychosocial effects and contributions of volunteering activities in NGOs on participants?" Within this framework, factors such as the motivations of young people for volunteering, their reasons for joining NGOs, the psychological and social benefits they gain from participating in volunteer activities, and the roles of social environment and family in shaping perceptions of volunteering were investigated. The study utilized a case study design, one of the qualitative research methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews conducted with a total of 20 participants, including 11 women and 9 men, who were volunteers at various NGOs in Sakarya province. Semi-structured interview forms were used to gather data, which were analyzed through descriptive analysis and the Maxqda software. The study aims to contribute to the development of new strategies for NGOs, social responsibility projects, and related official institutions to better understand and enhance young people's awareness of volunteering. The research revealed that new generations perceive volunteering as an opportunity for personal development, psychological satisfaction, and strengthening social bonds. Social factors such as support from schools, peer groups, and families play a crucial role in participation in volunteer activities. Additionally, it was emphasized that volunteering provides psychosocial benefits such as intrinsic satisfaction, a sense of social responsibility, and strong social ties. These findings highlight the importance of NGOs adopting strategic approaches to promote the culture of volunteering and increase participation. Based on the research results, it is recommended to develop a strategic approach that fosters collaboration among various stakeholders to increase participation in volunteering activities and strengthen the culture of volunteering.
