New social movements and peace journalism: Journalistic practices during the Gezi Park protests

Around the World, along with the armed conflicts, there are many conflicts on social, cultural, economic, religious, ethnic and gender based matters. Invisible violence that is mostly revealed through discourses may cause, in the long run, the conflicts to reveal themselves in the form of direct violence. As media is an area where the discourse is generated and spread extremely fast, the news reaches the masses very quickly and plays an ideological role on them. With reference to the effect of media on discourse, and the effect of discourse on violence and conflict; this study, which include analysis the journalistic practices during the Gezi Park Protests where both visible and invisible effects of violence were observed; was shaped within the framework of an interdisciplinary concept "peace journalism".
