The analysis of regional development disparities in Turkey within the framework of the new approaches

Regional disparities that seen in the spatial distribution of growth and development in the world economic geography is a major problem in most of the countries, despite the seperation of substantial degree in resources for intervention and elimination of inter-regional disparities. The rapid growth or relatively stagnant and slow-paced growth in some regions, the differences at the levels of prosperity and wealth between regions continue especially in developing countries and meanwhile in Turkey violently. The purpose of this study is to examine the dynamics of Turkey?s regional/local economic growth using the new theories that claim to explain these events with the recent developments in the world economic geography.In this study, we investigate to what extend the level-2 regions (NUTS-2) could benefit from scale economies and how close they could create value added with respect to their potentials, their growth performances in Turkey by implementing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The impact of employment, also sectorel distrubition of employment, human capital, infrastructure investments, entrepreneurships, exports of gross value added per capita and the economic performances of level-2 regions have been revealed with the different analysis in the study.
