The reflections of re-fictioning on today's education system

This thesis examines reconstructionism within the scope of educational philosophy and examines its impact on contemporary educational systems. Reconstructionism is a contemporary approach that aims to empower individuals to address social problems through education, acquire critical thinking skills, and contribute to the transformation of society as active citizens. The first part of the thesis explains the relationship between philosophy and education, while the second part addresses the theoretical foundations of educational philosophy. The third part examines reconstructionism in detail, drawing particularly on the views of John Dewey and Theodore Brameld, and discusses its impact on educational systems and current practices. Concepts such as student-centered education, reflective thinking, democratic school models, and a sense of social responsibility, which underline reconstructionism, are influential in shaping contemporary educational policies. The Turkish Century Maarif Model can be considered within this framework. Therefore, it demonstrates how reconstructionism aligns with contemporary educational policies and highlights its potential to enhance quality in education.
