The effect of perceived workload of nurses working in neonatal intensive care unit on attitudes towards family centered care

This study was planned as a descriptive study to determine the effect of perceived workload of nurses working in neonatal intensive care unit on attitudes towards family centered care. After obtaining the necessary permissions, the research data were collected between November-December 2018 with the Nurse Information Form, Parental Participation Attitude Scale (IPPC), Individual Workload Perception Scale (BIMS) developed by the researcher. The study was conducted with 55 nurses working in the neonatal intensive care unit in the pediatric hospital of the Ministry of Health in Kahramanmaraş city center. SPSS 22 program was used to evaluate the data. While almost all of the nurses participated in the study were women, 47.3% were concentrated in the 30-39 age group and 40 age group and over. 32.7% of their professional working time was defined as 21 years or more, and 76.4% of the unit's workload was expressed as over or too much. The mean BIAQ score of the nurses working in the NICU was 102.30 ± 13.93 and the mean ECT score was 74.70 ± 4.10. When the mean scores of the two scales were compared, no statistically significant relationship was found (p> 0.05). According to the mean score taken from the individual workload perception scale sub-dimensions of the nurses of the neonatal intensive care unit nurses, the workload perceptions of the nurses from the most positive to the less positive, respectively; "Peer support" "manager support" "unit support" "work environment". According to the results of these four subscale scores, it was found that the nurses' workload perceptions were above the average.
