Abstract (EN)

The junction stations of the Metro and Marmaray projects, which are two separate rail public transportation projects in Istanbul, were built in Yenikapı, where the currently filled Theodosian Port is located. There are also many pieces of rigging and equipment used by ancient ships among the finds found in the excavations carried out between 2004-2014 under the presidency of Istanbul Archaeological Museums for the construction of this station complex. In this study, the pieces of rigging and equipment found in the Yenikapı Excavations and the equipment finds related to navigational safety were examined and documented. From the first discovery to the Middle Ages, the changes and developments in the equipment and systems related to sailing and navigational safety used by ancient ships were analyzed comparatively in the light of the data obtained by examining the pieces related to this subject found in the Yenikapı Excavations.
