Abstract (EN)
There is no study about Karabük in the Democratic Party Period between 1950-1960 through the local press. This study aimed to eliminate this deficiency. The press life in Karabük, which increased in quantity after the 14 May 1950 elections, mostly supported the DP until the 27 May coup. For this reason, there was no event of newspaper closure by the government. However, while in the press of Karabük, Ata Yolu, which supports the CHP, and the Müstakil newspaper, which supports the CHP, are the representatives of the opposition front, it is an important detail that the Müstakil newspaper, in particular, faced the problem of not finding paper. According to these publications, Karabük Post did not represent a particular political party. The other point that needs to be mentioned is Yeni Karabük newspaper, which although it cannot be called opposition in the full sense, it can be expressed especially as representing the opposition group within the Karabük DP structure. Although the Democratic Party has weakened in general since 1957, if we look at its reflection in Karabük, we can say that it is not so.
