Abstract (EN)
Developments in Turkey after 1980 brought up issues such as women's rights and gender inequality, and many studies were conducted on the subject. In this process, the media has turned into a new investment area, and the number of female employees has increased at the same pace. However, this new process has brought with it a difficult struggle to protect the presence of women in the sector. Women working in the press sector fall into a secondary position largely due to media bosses and professional conditions, and not to be underestimated, due to the gender approach of the public. Financial inequalities, social responsibilities, prejudices, difficult working hours, poor functioning of promotion rights, and most importantly, sexist approaches are some of the problems that women face and struggle with in their professional life. Despite everything, the number of women working in the press is not to be underestimated. This study, which aims to determine the problems experienced by women working in the press sector in their working life, has examined whether there are sexist approaches in particular, in the local press of Malatya. The data obtained in the study reveal that female employees are exposed to sexist approaches in the media sector. It has been observed that women, who encounter some difficulties in the profession due to being a woman, are in dilemmas between work and family, especially due to the roles that society imposes on them.
