Abstract (EN)
Keywords: Characterization, municipal solid waste, integrated waste management. Solid wastes have become main problem in urban areas because of the increase amount of solid waste in porpotion to the environmental pollution caused by the waste. In some local governments where faulty waste management thousands or even millions of liras are wasted depending on population and solid waste landfill sites are unnecessarily occupied. The first target to get a gain from solid wastes which are appear like financal burden accross the world and in our country is to collect the wastes in their source and to collect them separately from their source by characterising. In this study, in Çayırova District where source separate collecting activities carried out, characterization study performed by the substance group analysis method. The study area is divided in to four groups according to income levels and the results was seen that kitchen waste was the first with 46,58%. Kitchen wastes were followed by packing wastes with 27,07%; cumbustible waste (textile, etc.) with 22,99%; parkland and garden wastes with 1,49%, ash waste with 1,44%; hazardours wastes with 0,37% and finally electronic wastes with 0,07%. When the resaults where evaluated, waste management activities in the study area were found to be inadequete. It determined that, in order to increase the efficiency of source separate collecting/separate collection at the source and to reduce the amount of waste to be directed to the ultimate disposal, improvement studies such as increasing the number of training provided and increasing diversity in collection equipment should be included.
