Applications of social municipality Basaksehir Municipality

Today, in many developed or developing countries, municipalities assume important responsibilities along with the central government in the implementation of social policies. At this point, support is obtained from the units closest to the citizen in providing the understanding of social state. In our country, the recent applications of municipalities within the scope of social policy make them an important actor. Social municipal services of municipalities are an important reality for our country. Municipalities alleviate the burden of central government with the role of social municipality in cases where it is inadequate to solve social problems with the possibilities of central government. In this study, after focusing on the theoretical foundations of the concept of social municipality, applications of social municipality services are given through the example of Başakşehir Municipality. In this study, which is one of the qualitative analysis techniques, content analysis method is used, the applications of Başakşehir Municipality in the scope of social municipality between 2015-2018 are analyzed with reference to Başakşehir Municipality's annual activity reports and related literature. It is thought that the study will help to ensure the sustainability of the social municipality practices that the municipalities carry out diligently. According to the findings of the research, Başahşehir Municipality supports local development by trying to increase the welfare level of the people living in the city, to establish social balance in the society, to ensure social peace and justice in the social municipality. The municipality provides in-kind and cash assistance to the disadvantaged sections of the society to provide social equality in its services.
