The foundation of daily life and reflections of daily life practices in domestic TV series

Everyday life is one of the basic areas that includes the daily actions and practices of the individual and reveals his living conditions. With modernization, the daily life of the individual has begun to be determined and shaped on the basis of the economic, political and social relations of the surrounding capitalist World. Everyday practices are organized to exploit the individual for capitalist wants and to spread the culture of consumption. One of the most basic channels in the mentioned organization of daily life is undoubtedly television and domestic serials, which are one of the main types of television. The domestic serials, which are called "prime time" on commercial television channels and are screened during the hours when the most viewers are in front of the screen, are one of the most basic genres in which daily life is built around the consumption ideology. This situation opens up an important field of inquiry in terms of perceiving the daily life style and daily practices of individuals in the society. In this study, it is aimed to look at the daily life and practices produced in the domestic serials broadcast on private television channels in the 2018-2020 broadcast period, and from there to reveal what kind of daily life style and ideology is presented to the audience. In the research conducted with content analysis and critical discourse analysis methods, it was concluded that daily life and practices were shaped with the goal of reproducing capitalist consumption ideology and relations, in support of the discussions carried out in the theoretical part of the research. According to the results obtained in the research, it is seen that daily life is organized as one of the main areas for the consumerist manipulation of the individual. The daily life we watch in TV series is a life that reproduces the dominant social system and its relations, especially capitalist consumption, and includes structural domination.
