Investigation of the relationship between early maladaptive schemas, resilience and coping skills in adults

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and psychological resilience and coping skills in adults. In addition, the predictive effects of early maladaptive schemas on resilience and coping skills were investigated. Finally, the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics of adult individuals participating in the study, such as gender, income status, educational status, and employment status, and early maladaptive schemas, resilience and coping skills, which are working variables, were analyzed. The sample group of the research consists of 324 adult individuals, 186 women and 138 men, living in Istanbul. The research was designed in accordance with the relational screening model. Personal Information Form, Young Schema Scale, Adult Resilience Scale and Stress Coping Styles Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. The obtained data were analyzed by using parametric analysis methods in SPSS-22 statistical program. According to the results obtained from the analyzes, the following findings were reached: There is a significant relationship between early maladaptive schemas and psychological resilience and coping skills in adults. A significant relationship was found between psychological resilience and the ability to cope with stress. Early maladaptive schemas have a predictive effect on resilience and coping skills. According to socio-demographic data, early maladaptive schemas differ significantly according to gender, age, income status, employment status and education level. Similarly, psychological resilience and ability to cope with stress differ significantly according to gender, age, income status, employment status and educational status. The results obtained as a result of the research are presented in the discussion section of the study in the light of the relevant literature.
