Abstract (EN)
The phenomenon of population ageing, which is characterised by demographic transformation on a global scale, exerts a multifaceted influence on society, encompassing the social, economic and cultural domains. The increased life expectancy has had a significant impact on the perception of old age, leading to a prolongation of the retirement period. In this context, the social security system plays a crucial role in ensuring financial security and well-being for older individuals. Consequently, the present study was conducted with the objective of ascertaining the perceptions of old age and retirement expectations of adult individuals. The study was designed with the descriptive analysis technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods, in order to achieve the stated purpose. The participants were included in the study using the criterion sampling technique. The present study was conducted utilising a semi-structured interview technique with 15 volunteer individuals between the ages of 30 and 45 who were employed within the private sector in Bolu. The subsequent analysis and interpretation of the data was conducted using the MAXQDA software. The findings of the study demonstrate that the ageing process is perceived in multiple ways. The process is associated with positive expressions such as wisdom and maturity. However, it is also characterised by challenges such as physical decline and psychological wear and tear. The responses provided by the participants indicate that elderly and retired individuals are not accorded sufficient value, and that financial constraints have a detrimental effect on the ageing process. The transition to retirement is often accompanied by a sense of disconnection from the broader community and a multitude of challenges. Despite the fact that a variety of reasons for continuing to work after retirement were stated, it was determined that the primary reason was financial. During the retirement period, the desire to spend time with family members becomes paramount, and there is a tendency to utilise leisure time for hobbies and social activities. The research indicates that the prevailing attitude towards the elderly is one of negativity. The process of ageing is often accompanied by a series of physiological changes and health complications. The prevailing sentiment is that retirement expectations are minimal. Expectations are shaped by a combination of factors, including the pursuit of financial security, the quality of life, and concerns regarding social and psychological well-being. The right to retirement, while acknowledged as a fundamental entitlement, can engender feelings of unease among individuals due to prevailing economic circumstances. The findings of the study indicate that the prevailing conditions are inadequate to meet the life standards that the participants anticipate in retirement.
