The influence of individualized care perception of adult patients on the readiness for hospital discharge

SUMMARY The Influence of Individualized Care Perception of Adult Patients on the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Objective : The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of individualized care perception of adult patients on the readiness for hospital discharge. Method : The study was planned in a descriptive. It was carried out on 811 patients staying in the surgical – internal disease clinic of three different hospitals. The approval for the study was obtained from the clinical research ethical committee of a university. A patient information form, an Individualized Care Scale and The Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale- Short Form (RHDS/SF) were used to collect data and for data analysis score, percentage and arithmetic mean were used. The correlation between the scales were analyzed with pearson correlation analysis and regression model. Data was analyzed using SPSS for Windows, version 18.0. Results : 52.2 % of the patients were women, 50.1% were 56 years old and over. 43.8% of the sample group were primary school graduates. It is observed that A and B general state average of the Individualized Care Scale (ICSA = 3.34 +- 1.03; ICS-B = 3.97 +- 1.01 ) is over 3 in the fivefold Likert type scale. The general average of the RHDS/SF scale is 4.77 +- 3.70. When the arithmetic means belonging to ICS-A sub-dimensions were analyzed, the average of 'clinical stituation' dimension was the highest and ICS-B sub-dimensions were analyzed, the average of 'personal life stituation' dimension was the highest whereas 'decisions control' sub-dimension was the lowest. In the RHDS/SF scale, on the other hand, the sub-dimension with the highest average was 'the expected support' and the one with the lowest average was 'knowledge'. According to regression analyses it was detected that a unit increase in the perception of nursing care practice (ICSA) caused an increase of 0.495 in the perception of readiness for hospital discharge and detected that a unit increase in the perception of individualized self-care (ICSA) caused an increase of 0.467 in the perception of readiness for hospital discharge. Conclusion: It was detected that the influence of individualized care perception of adult patients on the readiness for hospital discharge was positive. The care provided by nurses according to the individual features and needs of patients will result in feeling ready for hospital discharge without anxiety, feeling pleased and reducing being re-hospitalized.
