Abstract (EN)

Supra-threshold tests are one of the most commonly used tests in the evaluation of hearing. Supra-threshold tests are also called Speech Audiometry. The Word Recognition Test, in which patients are expected to recognize the one-syllable word presented to them. It is one of the tests that make up the speech audiometry. Measuring the real-world impact of patients' hearing performance makes this test invaluable to all audiologists. Traditionally, all word lists designed to date have strict rules that are followed. In this study, the scores of the Hacettepe list, which is the most frequently used word recognition test in audiology clinics in our country, and the Baskent Word List, designed for this thesis, were compared with both those aged between 18 and 40 with healthy hearing and individuals with sensorineural hearing loss. All phonemes in Turkish were determined by using Ergenç 1995 and Gürzap 2006 for the selection of words. Then, the Word Frequency Dictionary of Turkish was used for the written language corpus to create the word lists. For the oral language corpus, 6 programs broadcast on TRT were used. All phonemes in Turkish were classified in both corpuscles. The premise words were presented to 384 people and they were asked to score the familiarity. According to the findings, there is a significant difference between the answers of the hearing impaired individuals to the Hacettepe list and the Başkent list for both ears (p<0.001). Accordingly, participants respond better to the Başkent list. In addition, when lexical neighborhood relations are examined, it is seen that the words in the Hacettepe list have significantly more lexical neighbors. The findings showed that phonetic distribution was not of primary importance when designing word recognition tests, and that phonetically correct representation of the language would affect patient responses. In addition, the lack of lexical neighborhood relations in the presented target word makes it more possible for patients to understand the word.
