Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is, considering the problems such as staying indoors for a long time in people's homes worldwide due to the pandemic, many sports facilities being closed even if they want to exercise, and the increase in the risk of contamination by exercising in a crowded environment, it is thought that a sedentary life wears people out physiologically and psychologically. For this reason, in order to reduce the negative effects of the pandemic, it is to try to offer them a healthier life by applying an exercise protocol prepared for adults in the home environment. A total of 21 security guards, including adult female (12) and male (9) working at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs were included in this study. The effect of the strength development exercise program applied to the security guards using their own body weights and a pair of dumbbells (5 kg for men and 3 kg for women), 3 days a week and 1 hour a day for 12 weeks, on physical fitness, muscle development and some physiological characteristics was investigated. In the study, pretest-posttest quasi-experimental method was applied without control group. Before and after the strength development exercise program applied for 12 weeks, 5 physical fitness tests (hand grip strength, back strength, leg strength, flexibility, vertical jump) taken from the Brockport Physical Fitness Test Battery and body measurement parameters were taken with a tape. Strength development exercise program was applied 3 days a week, 1 hour a day. The obtained data were entered into the SPSS 23.0 package program, and the analyzes were made within this program. The data obtained from the study were used descriptive statistics, and the arithmetic mean and standard deviations of these values were found. Paired Samples T analysis was used to test the hypotheses created for the purpose of the study. When the pre-test and post-test parameters of the adult female and male security guards in the study group were examined, there was a statistically significant difference in the parameter values of hand grip strength, back strength, leg strength, vertical jump, flexibility, right and left arm, shoulder, chest, abdomen and hip widths (p<0.05), There was no significant difference in body mass index and body weight parameters (p<0.05). According to the findings of the study, it can be said that the strength development exercise program consisting of basic simple movements at home for a short time and with a pair of dumbbells has positive effects on physical fitness, muscle development and some physiological characteristics in adult female and male security guards. In addition, it is recommended that the participants transform such exercise protocols into a lifestyle both in pandemic and normal conditions.
