The effect of job satisfaction levels on nutritional status of BLUE and white collar employees receiving food service

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to determine the effect of job satisfaction level on nutritional status of blue and white collar male employees receiving food service. The study was carried out by using face-to-face survey method with 138 adult male (69 blue collar-69 white collar) employees aged 18-64 working in a private company in the province of Ankara between December and April 2022. The questionnaire form prepared to collect data in the study includes a form to determine the general information and anthropometric measurements of the individuals participating in the research, and the questions of the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Healthy Eating Index-2010 (HEI-2010) and the Food Consumption Frequency Form to measure the nutritional quality and determine their nutritional status. The mean age was found to be 36.6±10.23 years for white collar workers and 36.8±9.73 years for blue collar workers. Body mass indexes (BMI) of white and blue collar workers, respectively; It was determined as 26.4±2.98 and 27.4±3.89 kg/m² (p>0.05). The mean waist/hip ratio was found to be 0.9±0.06 in white-collar workers and 1.00±0.06 in blue-collar workers, and this difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). The mean white energy intake of blue-collar workers was 2332.1±673.63 kcal and that of white-collar workers was 2042.7±558.02 kcal, and this difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). The percentages of white energy from carbohydrates, proteins and fats of white-collar workers are in order; While 40%, 17.5% and 42.5%, these rates are respectively for blue-collar workers; It was determined as 46%, 15.7% and 38.4%. A statistically significant relationship (p<0.05) was found between the average white carbohydrate, protein and fat consumption and the staff status. HEI-2010 mean scores of white and blue collar individuals with job dissatisfaction are respectively; It was determined as 60.9±6.76 and 62.9±3.32. There was no statistically significant difference between the job satisfaction scale score classification and the HEI-2010 score average (p>0.05). This research is a pioneering study examining the effect of job satisfaction levels on nutritional status in our country. No significant relationship was found between job satisfaction and nutritional status. More research is needed on this subject.
