Aesthetic contribution of washing techniques to knitted outerwear design

This research was carried out in order to reveal the aesthetic effects of the washing process, which is applied to give different visual effects to the product in t-shirt production, on different sewing techniques and fabric types. In the first section of the research, which consists of two sections, the transformation of t-shirts, which are products with high commercial value today, from underwear to outerwear are discussed, and all the stages from raw material to packaging product are explained. Within the first section, information is given about all the variables that affect the cost of a t-shirt. In the second section of the research, the aesthetic impacts of the washing types applied in t-shirt production are determined by experimental studies. For experimental studies, the most preferred applications in knitted outerwear production are oil washing, devoré washing, acid washing and batik washing. Washing processes were carried out with the samples prepared with the fabric and sewing types most commonly used in T-shirt production, and visual comparisons were made between the samples obtained. The findings obtained as a result of the comparisons made for each type of washing are explained. In the experimental studies, the information of the company officials serving the textile and outerwear sector was used and the experiences of the author in the field of ready wear were conveyed. The thesis aims to prevent the loss of labor and time by ensuring the recording of experience-based knowledge. The most important aim of the thesis is to produce a resource that designers working in the field of knitted ready-to-wear can refer to as regards the aesthetic gains of washing practices.
