Abstract (EN)

The subject of this study is to point out the Magazine Yıldız's activities of magazine publishing of cinema which was published between 1938 and 1954 and to describe how the Magazine reflected modernization. Turkish cinema started its first trials from 1914, then it turned into a theatrical mood, and it searched for new ways in the period from 1939 to 1950 called transitional period. The Magazine Yıldız contributed to the establishment of a modern cinema in this period. The Magazine was highly functional and filled a huge gap in the field of magazine publishing of cinema. It has a key role for institutionalization of magazine publishing of cinema, and it conveyed and introduced modernization's new ways of living by affirming them. The Magazine made a contribution to the modernization of cinema, magazine publishing of cinema and the modernization of Turkish society in the early period of republic modernization. Accordingly, underlying concepts were questioned depending upon modernization. Historical traces of Turkish modernization, position of the press, and the early period of the Turkish cinema were the key issues. Finally, the Magazine Yıldız's publishing activities were determined, and it was analysed how the Magazine presented modernization via its news. What the Magazine published was subjected to content analysis for this purpose. Key words: Modern, Modernization, Cinema, Magazine Publishing of Cinema, the Magazine Yıldız
